Surrender Information
The Milton Animal Shelter is a municipal facility of the Town of Milton, MA. We can only accept surrendered pets from residents of the Town of Milton. Please see our links page, which includes a number of privately funded no-kill shelters, or look below for a list of cat-only shelters.
Strays: We accept strays from the Town of Milton at any time. If you see a stray cat or dog, please don't try to catch it yourself. Call Animal Control Officer Linda Kippenberger at (617) 698-0455 for assistance.
Surrendering Pets
Oftentimes, pets are surrendered to a shelter because of soluble problems. Issues such as chewing, barking, or litter box problems can be addressed with training and/or a thorough vet check-up. We're happy to counsel pet owners about approaches that can help them to keep their pets.
If surrendering a pet becomes unavoidable, we will ask you to present a vet's certificate documenting that the pet is spayed or neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. We also for a written vet's statement that the pet is adoptable, meaning that it must be healthy and non-aggressive. You will be asked to make an appointment to bring in your pet. When you arrive, we will ask you to fill out a questionnaire about the pet, which will help us to place it in a suitable home. A $35 fee is charged for surrendered pets.
